Penny, you're right.  Florida is below the Deep South.  I grew up in Florida and was successfully vegetarian (though not vegan) for several years there.  Then I moved 700 miles north, into the Deep South and wow!  Things are so very different here.

But even parts of rural Florida are a little tougher on the veg front. So welcome!!!

I have some friends who love their fried up southern goodness. Someone the other day said she wanted Chicken and Waffles for dinner. I really don't get that!

Hello! I live near Jacksonville and all my friends and family think I am weird because I don't eat meat. They take offense if I don't partake in the shrimp boil. People have stopped inviting me to dinners or cook outs. I moved to the south from Seattle. I have been vegetarian since 1996.

I'm from SC, grew up there. Moved all over with my husband due to military. Now we are in VA. Will likely stay here, it's a beautiful state.
